Windows keyboard shortcuts 20103/4/2023 Simply middle-click anywhere on the tab and it will be closed. You don't have to click the tab's red button to close it. Closing tabs is also much easier with the middle mouse button (of course you can do Ctrl W but sometimes the mouse is simply in your hand). The magical thing about this is that it works even for the browser's Back button! Also when you type a search term into the Google box (usually in top right corner) and middle-click the search button, the search results are opened in a new tab. Alt Tab : cycle through applications 1->2->3->4->.1 Add Shift to the shortcut and you will be cycling in the opposite direction 1Open Link in New Tab?Ĭlick a link with MIDDLE mouse button and it will open in a new tab (depends on your Tabs settings in Tools->Options but by default would work). Use Win-Shift-M to restore them to their previous state.īy the way, did you notice that the Sift key can be combined with most of the usual shortcuts? e.g. Many say that Win- D minimises all applications. That way, if something goes wrong with the submit (even if the browser crashes), you haven't lost your work - you have a copy of it sitting on the clipboard. Before submitting a web form where you've entered a lot of text into a text field (for example, an email in a web-based mail client - or a new question or answer on Stack Overflow!), do a quick Ctrl A, Ctrl C on the field.Ctrl Home / Ctrl End - Go to beginning/end of the current field or document.Ctrl left arrow / Ctrl right arrow - Move the caret to the previous/next word.Continue to hold Shift and navigate to select more text. Shift - Select text between the caret's previous and new positions.Ctrl A - Select All (in the current field or document).Seems like my Dino brain (small and ancient) just wants to work that way.A few basic keyboard shortcuts for clipboard operations, text selection, and navigation that work in most Windows programs: And I know is dumb because when I'm in macOS I'm always in Linux VMs (same with Windows and WSL). Set to "0" AppCaptureEnabled key in HKCU\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\GameDVR and GameDVR_Enabled in HKCU\System\GameConfigStore.īut the main thing here is: SWITCH KEYBOARDS! I don't know why but I find frustrating the extended usage of a PC keyboard in macOS and Mac keyboard in PC. Manually hack into the registry (and I don't recall but also log off or reboot).Īnyway, to disable the dumb Game Bar, again in the registry: In the registry go to HKCU\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Explorer\Advanced and add to the DisabledHotkeys key the ones you want. Right click on the script and select Run with UI Access (you can also manually open it with AutoHotkeyU?_UIA.exe). Under User Configuration > Administrativ Templates > All Settings > Turn Off Windows X Hotkeys. My bootstrap script disables Game Bar, however there are a few workarounds:ĭisable that specific WIN combo in registry Hope someone else finds this useful! Thanks to the AHK team for such a great tool. Not a big deal as the workaround is to just turn off the "Game Bar" in Windows. I tried BlockInput but that had no effect. AHK doesn't suppress the default windows behavior for this, like it does for all the other Windows keyboard shortcuts. The only issue I'm having is with Windows G, as noted in my GitHub readme. Makes it so much more enjoyable for me to use Windows now. I'm very into keyboard shortcuts, and having baked the Mac ones into my brain for over a decade, switching between the two OSes is hard. I much prefer Mac for 98% of my work, but periodically I need to use something like Power BI or a CAD program. This is nowhere near as complex as what I know many AHK'ers out there do, but as someone who has spent most of the last 15 years on Mac (after 15 years prior to that on Windows) but who needs to occasionally use a PC, it's a godsend. I only recently discovered AutoHotKey and I used it to do something that has driven me insane for years: allow me to use Mac-style keyboard shortcuts in Windows.
